The PSP: What You Should Know

The PSP: What You Should Know
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mark_Spencer]Mark Spencer

Sony's small wonder has been a huge success across the world. A instant success at it's Japanese launch several years ago, the system was so hot that many gamers have resorted to importing it at extravagant prices. Some of the things I'll share about the PSP you may already know, while others features may be surprising. Whatever the case, be sure you read on to make sure you have the inside scoop on one of the biggest releases in gaming history.

1) First let's talk about graphics. The graphical power of the PSP is said to be close to that of a Playstation2. And yet many early screen shots show slightly less complicated character and background models. There's a reason for why things might appear that way, even though they are more impressive than anything else on the hand held market. It's because screen shots from a PS2 are full screen and need to be that detailed, whereas the PSP screen is smaller and thus can fool the eye into appearing more powerful than it is on paper. Simply put, the character models don't need to be as detailed, because you won't notice the difference anyway. That said, we need to keep in mind that these are first-generation PSP titles. Just look at how the PS2 games have evolved since its launch. If hand held games are looking this good at launch, imagine what a couple years of development time will do. You can expect the same leaps, similar to those found with home based consoles, as developers become more familiar with it.

2) The battery time issue is fixable. Everyone was worried about what kind of battery time we would be looking at with such a powerful system. Well as of now, you can expect even the most intensive games to last well beyond 3 hours of play time, while other less graphically intense games can reach up to 6 hours. Better yet, the system can be charged while you play it, and there will also be swappable batteries available if you find your game time will stretch well past 4 hours in one sitting. As an aside, mp3 playback will be in the realm of 9-10 hours, in large part because you can turn off the screen when the unit is tucked in your pocket. Charging will take about 2 hours from a completely drained battery. You can also play the PSP while charging the battery at the same time. There's more hope too. Sony has already stated that higher capacity batteries are in the works.

3) Music playback. The PSP will be able to play mp3's right out of the box. The only supported storage (outside the pre-loaded UMD media) will be Memory Stick Duo's, which could be found in capacities as large as 1GB, and for about $150 if you look hard enough. Battery life and sound quality have been reported to be pretty good, though you will probably want to use your favorite headphones. Many folks are planning to use the PSP as a secondary mp3 player, for when they grow tired of games while on the road.

4) It's wireless too. The Nintendo DS has already demonstrated the freedom that can be had without carrying your cords everywhere, or dealing with tangles when trying to hook up with more than one person. The PSP follows suit with a powerful wireless functionality that can work up to 100 feet away, even through walls. Theoretically, you can play against someone else on the far side of the floor you're on. Add in other players, and you can have 8 people going at it wirelessly without any game lag, as can be seen on the launch title Ridge Racers. And this is just the tip of it all, as future wireless titles can have internet connectivity so that you're playing with a team of folks that span the globe. In fact, the PSP can already log online, but only for firmware updates, at this point. It's only a matter of time before a third party releases a web browser UMD.

5) Sleep mode. One of the drawbacks to a disc-based system is load time. To help overcome some of the boot-up and loading time for the PSP, it allows you to put the system on sleep mode with a flick of a button, when you have a short break. Turning it back on will jump you immediately back to the point where you left off in your game, in less than a second. Furthermore, sleep mode has been found to have almost no effect on the battery-life, even after being in sleep for 24 hours. This means you can play in short bursts, experiencing the benefits of disc-based data, but minimizing the load times, if you need to keep it off for a little while.

6) Movie playback. The PSP plays back MP4-formatted movies, right off the memory stick. We're still working on a way to make this thing less complicated, but right now you need at least a couple pieces of software to make the movie conversion. One is Decrypter, to rip movies off of your DVD's and store them in VOB format files, and in conjunction with that you will need 3GP Converter, a free utility that converts video files to MP4. You will have better luck with smaller videos, and files that are already in AVI format. Sony itself recently released a converter software, but it does not rip your movies off DVD (understandably) and it also costs $10, on top of being Japanese. The 3GP program at least allows an option to change its language setting to English. Things will continue to iron themselves out as the system nears launch here in the US, but imagine how cool it would be to watch a 2-hour film on a brilliant portable wide-screen. The fact that you can do this, with a system that's rumored to launch at such a low price is unbelievable.

7) Strong third-party support. The PSP should have a huge selection of games available throughout its lifespan, if Sony's history is any indication. Even at launch, which we are hoping to come around March 2005, if not a little sooner, you'll be able to jam with the likes of: ATV Off Road Fury, Dynasty Warriors, Bomberman, Hot Shots Golf, Metal Gear Acid, Ridge Racers, WipeOut Pure, NBA Street, NFL Street, Tony Hawk's Underground 2, and Twisted Metal: World Tour.

8) The price is going to be right. In Japan, the cost of a PSP is $186 US once you make the conversion. It is very possible, in fact it is probable, that the PSP will launch in the US at $150 for the basic unit, and maybe $200 for the expanded Value Pack (includes a memory card, a strap, and a carry-pouch). Sony is looking to put a serious dent on the Nintendo handheld market and if they can match the price of it here, while at the same time offering all sorts of multimedia capabilities and a big leap in graphics, then it will do just that. Competition is always a good thing though, since this will get Nintendo thinking more about what they can produce to match. There could be a price cut on Nintendo's part, or there could be bundles offered. Is it any coincidence that the DS Metroid game is also set to be released in March?

9) The screen is a marvel. The PSP's screen has been called the crowning jewel of the system. It is amazingly bright even from multiple angles and from far away. Think about how some of the Sony VAIO laptop screens look like at your local Best Buy and you'll have an idea of how sweet it will look. Not only that, it's also in widescreen format so all games will natively give you a larger view of your surroundings, especially racing and FPS games. If you install your photos into the system, it will generate white bars on the side of the screen at first, since they are 4:3, but there is a zoom option on the PSP so that the image takes up the entire screen. You'll probably be taking more shots with your digital camera from here on out, so that you can show off pictures easier now. The screen is substantially brighter than the Nintendo DS'.

10) Announcements are coming very soon. Word is that Sony is waiting until the holiday season ends so that they can announce all of the US official launch plans. Since it's practically January already, it's only going to be just a short couple of months before we have this thing in our hands! Gamestop and other software retailers are already taking pre-orders so we suggest you run out now if you want to be guaranteed one on launch day. We're so excited to put this thing through its paces, and hopefully now you can understand why.

How to Make PSP Themes by Yourself Using PSP Theme Creator

How to Make PSP Themes by Yourself Using PSP Theme Creator
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Raedy_Kurniawan]Raedy Kurniawan

Making PSP Themes is very simple, but I noticed many people can't do that, so I'll give little tutorial so you can make it by yourself.

There are 2 kinds you can make with PSP Theme Creator

1. PSP Wallpapers
2. PSP Themes

Although the result is with same extension called .ptf, but its different things

1. PSP Wallpapers have background but the icon is standard from PSP theme creator

2. PSP Themes have background and all of icon created by yourself

To make the backgrounds and Icons I recommend use Adobe Photoshop and to convert into .ptf format we need PSP Theme Creator, you can have it free, just searching through Google search to find it

Here is the 3 simple step to make PSP Wallpapers:

1. The first thing you need is the background or wallpaper for your PSP, with photoshop open image which you like, resize image to 480x272 pixels, and then save as in BMP/bitmap format, resize again image to 300x170 pixels, save as BMP format, now you have 2 image with different size, 480x272 pixels for background and 300x170 pixels for preview image

2. Finished with background, we still need 1 icon for preview icon, you can make preview icon from your image, just crop the image with crop tool in photoshop as you like, resize it to 16x16 pixels, and then click tab File > Save for web > change output format in PNG-8 > Save

3. Now after we make wallpaper for background and icon for preview icon, we ready to convert them into PSP Wallpaper, just open PSP theme Creator, click tab information and write some Title, product ID, and Version for your Theme, then click tab Wallpaper > open 480x272 pixels bitmap image which has been made before, click tab Other > open the PNG icon for preview icon and 300x170 pixels image for preview image, the last step click tab File > Export > Save, Finally all the image and icon have been convert into .ptf extenxion, it means Theme has been made and the files ready to put on your PSP. Congratulations!

How To Download Free PSP Music From The Internet Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/861372

How To Download Free PSP Music From The Internet
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Sergey_Popov]Sergey Popov

So you are at my article looking for a free PSP music. If so, you are at the right place. In this article I will tell you about three methods which allow you to download free MP3 music from the internet. I hope this article will help you to make a decision.

PSP plays music in MP3 format, so you have to find sites, where you can download MP3 music. You can find free PSP Music, using peer-to-peer programs such as Kazaa, Limewire etc. With these programs you can download free PSP music from other users all over the world. But despite the fact, that this music is free, this method has a big disadvantage. The files are often low quality. I have also downloaded a lot of songs with viruses. So if you want to risk - you can try these programs.

There are a lot of pay-per-download sites, where you can download high quality music in MP3 format but if you want to download hundreds of songs, it will be very expensive. So I do not recommend you to use these sites.

And the last method, which i use, allows you to download as many mp3 music, games, software, wallpapers and movies as you can for a small one time fee. There are some sites which  will give you access to unlimited downloads with no extra fees. As for me, this method is the best. I have already downloaded hundreds of high quality MP3 songs, movies and games so I recommend this method to you.

The site below is the biggest PSP Download Center where you can find games, movies, music, cheat codes, game reviews, software and everything you need to turn your boring PSP into a personal multimedia entertainment unit. I have been using this site for a couple of month and I am very satisfied. You will only need to copy downloaded file on your PSP. I recommend this site to everyone who has PSP.

Get Internet On PSP - It Really Can Be Done, And In Five Simple Steps

Did you know you can use your PSP to pick up free wireless internet? Most people don't even realize this but it's pretty straightforward once you know how! Sit back and relax while you learn to get internet on your PSP!

Requirements:
There are a couple of fundamental things you will need before you can start surfing the web with your PSP. The first is some form of wireless internet source. It doesn't matter where it comes from, could be in your home or in your local Starbucks, all that matters is that you are in an area where you can get internet. Psp wireless settings follow the 802.11b wireless networking protocols, which are just about the most common in the world, so most kinds of wireless network connection will be just fine.
Also note that a copy of Wipeout:Pure is necessary to get internet on your PSP.

Sitting comfortably? Ok, prepare to learn how to get internet on PSP!

Step 1- Switch on the PSP and go to the System Menu, and then enter "Network Settings". From there go into "Infrastructure mode", and select a connection to edit. If you already have a home connection set up or something, just select this as the one you are going to edit. Leave the name of the profile as it is, and skip the WLAN settings if they are already set up.

Step2- Go into "Address Settings" click on "Custom" and be sure to leave "IP Address Setting" as Automatic. Believe me; adjusting this will not help you get internet on your PSP!

Step 3- Go into "DNS Setting" and click on manual. This is where we need to type the address of the web gateway we will be using. The most popular one to use for this is the gateway at Endgadget, so input the numbers "208.42.28.174" as the Primary DNS IP, and put zeros for the Secondary DNS IP. (0.0.0.0). If for any reason this gateway is not working you can usually find others with a quick Google search.

Step 4- In the "Proxy Server" options, select "Do Not Use" All you need to do from there is confirm everything, and save it all by pushing X when prompted.

Step 5- Launch Wipeout:Pure as normal, and go into the Downloads menu. When asked to select a connection, choose the one you have just been editing, and you should be presented with the Endgadget web screen. Et voila! How to get internet on PSP!

Provided you have the resource mentioned above, it's pretty easy to get internet on your PSP. Once you have it all set up you'll probably wonder how you got by without it!

The Truth About Downloading Free Games For PSP

The Truth About Downloading Free Games For PSP
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Ryan_Edward]Ryan Edward

So you've bought your PSP, and you've probably had visions of yourself using it all the time, playing different games and movies and stuff. But then the reality of how expensive owning a PSP can be comes sinking in.

So then you think to yourself, hey I bet that I can download free games for PSP from the Internet. So you do your search at your favorite search engine for downloading free games for your PSP and you then come stumbling across this article.

In this article I am going to shed some light on what to expect from the different types of websites out there that will let you download free games for PSP.

So you can see the advantages and disadvantages between the different types of PSP download sites out there I am going to be sharing examples from both free PSP download sites and paid PSP download sites.

When looking to download free games for PSP you are going to come across 5 different options:

Download Free Games For PSP Option #1

Option number one involves the websites out there that will let you download free games for PSP with out ever paying a fee. These sites are usually safe from spyware and adware. The real major drawback from these types of sites is that they will only be game demos, they won't let you download full PSP games.

Download Free Games For PSP Option #2

Option number two is all about downloading homebrew games. You will be able to download these games to your PSP for free all that you will need is an emulator. Homebrew games are old-school videos games from other video game systems like Nintendo and Sega Genesis. Downloading these free games to your PSP can be a lot of fun.

Download Free Games For PSP Option #3

These are the PSP download sites that will let you download free games for PSP without ever paying a thing. The games will even be full PSP games. You will never get charged a fee and you will be well on your way to downloading free PSP games instantly.

So what's the catch with these PSP download sites? Well first off, these PSP download sites will have a very limited selection and will most likely have terrible download speeds.

The owner of the website is going to lure you in with the word "free" but he wants to make money too, so he will partner up with an adware company that will pay him 50 cents every time someone downloads a free game for PSP, which in turn infects your computer with the adware companies virus.

Download Free Games For PSP Option #4

These are the PSP download sites that will make you pull out your wallet. You will be able to download free games for your PSP if you are willing to pay for their monthly membership. Some of these PSP download sites will also charge you a per download fee too.

The advantage with these PSP download sites is that you will get to download full PSP games at great speeds. They will have a wide selection and your computer will be safe from that dreaded spyware and adware garbage that's out there.

Download Free Games For PSP Option #5

Alright your final option for downloading free games for PSP. These PSP download sites are similar to the ones in option number four. You will get to download full PSP games, at great speeds. You will receive great customer support once you are a member.

Your computer will be safe from adware and spyware. You will be able to choose from a wide variety of PSP downloads like games, movies, music, wallpapers, themes and cheats.  Some will even give you different PSP software so you can pimp your PSP out.

The only real difference between these PSP download sites and the ones in the four option is that these PSP download sites only charge you a small one-time fee for a life-time of unlimited PSP downloads.

So once you have your membership you can download free games for PSP and more as often as you like. Now that you know the differences between the different PSP download sites, take your pick, but choose wisely and you will be well on your way to downloading free games to your PSP.

PSP Music Videos - Revealed - How to Get Music Videos For PSP Now

With different views and opinions regarding how to get PSP music videos and PSP movie downloads, it may seem an overwhelming task.  But factually it is not that difficult.

Though the exact method is debatable, SONY has marketed the product quite efficiently and it is a wonder in itself. Why more people don't use this awesome system to watch movies and videos is not because it is not fun, but because they do not know how to download music videos for psp.

Well, I'm here to tell you that you can enjoy watching PSP music videos and movies to the fullest with this magic machine!  The first thing you will require is a big memory card, preferably it should not be less than 512 MB.  The larger the storage size the more PSP music video downloads you can get.

The PSP comes with a memory card of 32 MB, but because of the small memory size, that will maybe allow you to watch only a few PSP music videos.  This I know, you will not be happy with in the long run.  So when purchasing your memory card for PSP music videos, think the larger the better.  The san disk pro duo memory card is available on Amazon for less so it's recommended to search for it to save money.

How To Put Music On PSP - Step By Step Guide

One of the features available in PSP is the ability to play music files namely MP3 format. Certain PSP will also be able to play other types of music files such as Window very own WMA and WMV format, but we will get into that later. However these are restricted to newer version of PSP. This is a rundown on how to put music on PSP.

The steps taken is no different than transferring any files from your PC to PSP memory stick. In order to put music on PSP you will require a USB cable.

This is how you put music on PSP:

1. Connect your PSP with your PC using the USB cable.

2. Use your PSP interface and hit HOME button, and then go into "Settings". Here you will have to use
the directional button to find "USB Connection"

3. Once the connection is made, you will need to check your PCs available drives. You can do this by
going into "My Computer". Your PC should detect your PSP as and additional drive. It is not much
different from using portable drive or thumb drives actually.

4. Click on your assigned PSP drive.

5. Create a new folder call "music" on your PSP drive

6. Select your MP3 music from your PC and drag it into your "music" folder on your PSP. Note that all
this is done in your PC interface.

7. When all the desired MP3 are transferred, get out of the USB connection mode by pressing "O" on
your PSP.

8. Find the music area in your PSP, and select your memory stick. Search for your "music" folder and
you are good to go.

If you have other types of music format in your PC, i.e. WMV or WMA, you will need a converter to convert those files to MP3 format. Do not fret though, as Sony will also supply PSP user with its very own Image Converter. You can easily convert WMA and WMV files format into MP3 format and just repeat the whole process on how to put music on PSP.

On the other hand if you want to play WMV and WMA files without converting your files to MP3, you can always update your PSP firmware to the latest firmware. However, I would not recommend this (upgrading your PSP firmware) as it will severely limit your PSP experience. Some of the effect of upgrading your PSP firmware is that certain games you have will not work on your PSP with the latest firmware. There are forums dedicated to PSP downgrading as a lot of people want to revert back to their old firmware.

"How to put music on your PSP?" has been asked countless times and using PSP interface it is as easy as transferring files to your USB thumb drives. Hope this articles helps.

How to Convert Your Videos into PSP Format -The 1-2-3 Way

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Greg_Edward]Greg Edward

Nowadays, a lot of people have got their PSPs and are happy playing all the time and wherever they are, no more boring waiting anywhere. But we are always wanting animals, and we have dominated the “Gaming anywhere”, now people are so lazy to even play the games themselves, wouldn’t it be nice to sit and watch the movies right in your hands anywhere, yes that would be cool. But PSP doesn’t allow videos of "avi" and "divx" format to be played, so sad… only we can convert videos into PSP format.

The Question which I am always asked from the users who are starting to understand PSP is
“How to Convert Videos into PSP Format?”

I have a solution for to convert videos to PSP here, now...  No more time to waste, right away to the content...

Requirements to convert videos to PSP:

a. DVD ripper

b. USB data cable

c. PC

d. 3GP converter

e. Memory Stick loaded into your PSP

f.  PSP Firmware V1.5, (you can rollback to this version using the tools available over the net) and a video ;-)

Steps:

1. Connect your PSP to the pc using the data cable,  now you will see your PSP as a removable drive in your my computer page

2. Now Rip the movie ("avi" or "divx") from your dvd to any of your drives

3. Use the 3GP converter, and select the option of “MP4 for PSP” format and select the required bit rate, frame rate settings etc to your needs, now select the video to be converted, and also give a path for the converted video to be placed...

4. Wait time….. It takes some time to convert your videos. In the meantime create folder called “MP_ROOT” in your PSP drive shown. Then within the “MP_ROOT” folder create a folder with the name “100MNV01”, sorry for such a weird folder name, but SONY PSP requires you to do so…..

5. Now, when the converter has completed converting your video files to PSP MP4 format, go to the location where you’re asked files to be converted. You will see a weird file named something like “M4V01234.MP4.”

6. Now copy that file to the folder path we have created in the 4th step “F:MP_ROOT100MNV01” where F can be your psp drive name created.

7. Disconnect PSP from Your pc, scroll over to videos in PSP menu, to select the video you just copied to the PSP by pressing the ‘o’ button and press ‘o’ again to play the file…
That’s it; you have the steps to convert your Videos into PSP format, Happy Watching anywhere anytime.

But if you are like me and use your little gadget PSP, heavily and crave for a lot of files in your PSP, keep watching movies, playing games, hear music all the time and do not want to waste a lot of time doing all the above steps repeatedly to convert videos into PSP format, believe me it consumes a lot of time from me, to keep my PSP updated. You will need a site to give you unlimited PSP downloads of Full version games, movies, music, software and millions of files, and thus avoid the hassle to convert videos into psp format.

There are a lot sites all over the internet, claiming to give you free downloads of PSP files, but believe me, they are all scams, they spread unbelievable viruses and other malicious tools, into your PSP. Hey, I even lost a whole new PSP (The virus critically affected the firmware) falling for these free to download sites, not to mention their sucking speeds.

So, does all the paid PSP download sites are legit? I am sorry to say… No they are not, there are a lot of sites which run away with your money. But I badly needed my PSP, so just tried out everything possible out there, a lot of sites. Finally found some sites worth their weight in gold, providing a lot of downloads (literally 10s of millions) just for the one time price of a single PSP game. If you want to see my reviews, go to [http://www.pspdownloadsreview.net]

Now follow the steps above, convert the videos to PSP and happily watch them on your PSP or see my reviews and join the site which you find apt for you and avoid the hassle to convert videos into PSP format.
